CHRISTMAS LILIES-Lilium Longiflorum
SITUATION: A sunny or semi-shaded position in a well drained soil. Dig deeply, mixing through a generous quantity of well rotted animal manure a few weeks before planting. TIME OF PLANTING: February to May. Plant bulbs about three times their height below the surface. Space 20-35cm apart. WHILE GROWING: Water well in warmer months. If necessary, spray to control fungal diseases. Bulbs which have been left in the ground should be top dressed in winter with a mulch of manure or compost 2-3cm thick. DIGGING & STORING: Christmas Lilies can be left undisturbed for several years. Dig bulbs early autumn if desired. Store in a moist peat of sphagnum moss if unable to replant immediately.
